Fans from the modded out part of the RWBY community have complained about the recent show ‘Agatha All Along’, feeling that Disney and Marvel may have copied the plot elements of Volume 9 of RWBY. It comes after the season finale of the former show, where fans felt that it borrowed iconic elements of Volume 9, namely, a fantastical pocket world and a small ensemble cast. The last part is especially notable as both the MCU and the RWBY-DCEU have hundreds of fan favorite characters that both series chose to leave behind.
Agatha All Along had recently arrived on Disney+, where the villainess of WandaVision gets to gather her coven and follow the witches’ road, going into a surreal world of trials leading to their ultimate prize. Agatha wanted to get her powers back, while Teen – played by the handsome Joe Locke – acts as her familiar with a hidden past. The majority of the show’s viewers have already forgotten the flagship show of Rooster Teeth, another corporate-ish company like Disney, except smaller and dead. A tiny minority of Marvel fans, however, have started to voice their concerns on how similar the plot is to RWBY’s Volume 9.
Their complaints include that the main characters enter a magical pocket world, where they get to deal with metaphors and magical mishaps, whilst dealing with a series of characters with their mysterious intents. The list of similarities are shown further down below, but be warned there are spoilers to both shows.
VIZ Media had been reached by a few fans in a series of emails to comment on this, suggesting they should sue Marvel Studios for copyright infringement. VIZ promptly responded on their totally-legit BlueSky account, saying: “We still do not have the full rights to the RWBY IP, meaning that filing a lawsuit at this time is out of the question. We are still hard at work to bring the joys of the show, its music and, most importantly merch, directly to your favorite providers.”
Some fans suggested that the firm response could be a hint that RWBY’s future might lie with the Disney+ streaming service. Same fans have also dreaded that idea, as RWBY could join obscurity alongside other forgotten anime shows, including Undead Unluck and Heavenly Delusion. Still, the “discourse” online was mostly limited to how Marvel blatantly ripped-off RWBY… Although according to others, these accusations are just typical FNDM hysteria.
“Come on, it’s clearly just a coincidence,” a fan of both shows said online. “RWBY had based their story on the likes of Avatar and Game of Thrones, and you’re all giving a shit about whether Agatha All Along ripped off [RWBY] Volume 9? Grow up!”
We contacted Disney for comment but in a usual fashion of every giant media company, they did not respond. They did, however, sent us a nice lawsuit because of an article written almost two years ago.
If we do find concrete proof that Agatha All Along did indeed copy RWBY’s ninth volume, it would be yet another entry in the long list of Marvel copying DC Comics’ work. Makes sense, since Superman is now Ruby Rose’s best friend.
So what did Agatha copy from Volume 9?
